Police Hunt Suspect Wanted For Stalking, Attempting To Sexually Assault Woman At South Coast Plaza

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com)  —   Police in Costa Mesa are on the hunt for a sexual predator they say attacked a woman after following her around the South Coast Plaza.

Police on Wednesday released surveillance video of the suspect hoping the public can help identify the man.

The attack occurred in an outdoor parking lot just after 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, authorities said.

Video showed the man stalking the woman and following her to her car.

Police said the woman was able to fend off her attacker. Officials said she was not injured.

CBS2's Stacey Butler spoke to shoppers who demanded more security.

"I think it's awful," said one woman, "How can something like this happen over at South Coast Plaza. There should be [more] security."

Police believe the suspect might have also targeted other women. They are asking any other potential victims or witnesses to come forward.

The suspect is described as between 17 to 22 years of age and about 5 feet 8 inches tall. He has a slim build and short dark hair. When last seen the man was wearing a blue or black shirt and blue shorts.

If you know this man, you're asked to call Detective Hernandez with the Costa Mesa Police Department (714) 754-5120.
