Man, 45, Fatally Shot While 12-Year-Old Son Watches Helplessly

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  Authorities said a 45-year-old man was fatally shot in front of his 12-year-old son in the Westmount area near South Los Angeles.

The shooting was reported at 5:45 p.m. Friday in front of a residence in the 1600 block of West 110th Street, according to Deputy Sara Rodriguez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Information Bureau.

Responding deputies found the victim, described as a 45-year-old black man, lying on the porch of the home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Witnesses told detectives the victim was sitting on the porch watching his son and other children being taught football drills by other adults when a car pulled up and stopped in front of the home.

A suspect walked up to the victim and shot him several times, according to Deputy Lisa Jansen of the Sheriff's Information Bureau. As the adults and children ran for cover, the suspect got back into the car, which traveled west on 110th Street.

The victim, who did not live at that residence, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s wearing a gray hoodie type jacket.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time, Jansen said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
