Authorities Arrest Man After Shots Fired At Driver On 110 Freeway

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities have arrested an attempted murder suspect after shots were fired on the 110 Freeway on Thursday.

A man called the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Carson Station around 10:55 a.m. to alert them that the suspect was headed north on the 110 Freeway.

The victim, who was not injured or struck by gunfire, told deputies the shooting occurred after the suspect pulled alongside his vehicle and the two drivers exchanged words.

The suspect has been identified as Mike Ruiz, 25, of Los Angeles.

At least one round penetrated the passenger compartment of the vehicle, authorities said.

Police were able to apprehend the suspect a short time later after Ruiz was spotted driving near West 220th Street and Randall Avenue in Carson.

The victim in the incident was able to provide a description of the car, a description of the suspect and of the gun that was used, which ultimately helped authorities track down Ruiz.

"The gunman was taken into custody without incident. A firearm and ammunition were discovered from his vehicle," the Sheriff's Department said.

Ruiz was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and is being held in lieu of a $1.1 million bail.
