Police Pursuit Ends With Officers Shooting Man Dead, Woman Arrested

BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) —  The pursuit of a stolen car suspect ended with officers fatally shooting the suspect, police said.

A female driver was also taken into custody, authorities said.

KCAL9's Erica Nochlin spoke to neighbors who heard the commotion and shooting on Atwood Street and Atwood Place.

Police said the incident started when they saw a stolen car driven by the suspect.

Nochlin played cellphone video, on which shots are audible. The video also captured a white vehicle being pursued by police.

The neighbor who shot the video said she later saw the driver in handcuffs. Sky9 was overhead when the man was placed onto a gurney.

Authorities said the suspect got out of the car at the end of the chase and ran up a driveway.

At this point, another neighbor told Nochlin, someone yelled out , "He has a gun." Shortly after that, police shot the man.

It was unclear if the suspect fired at police or raised or aimed a weapon at them.

She spoke to another neighbor who said she was also almost mowed down.

"It was scary," said the unidentified woman. "I thought at almost any moment they could stop or jump out or something. I felt like, what do I do? And then right after the gunshots, all the other officers came."

Police said the officers were wearing body cameras. Investigators said they were reviewing the video before they would say what exactly took place between when the man ran and officers fired.
