Idea Of Pokemon Go Dating App Delights Some, Nauseates Others

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  A new Pokemon Go dating app is delighting many and nauseating others.

You probably already know which camp you're in -- or will decide by the time you get to the end of this sentence.

KCAL9's Brittney Hopper went out Friday and also found mixed reactions to the new app, Poke-Match.

This 2-day-old app, of course, mixes two things young singles love right now: the most popular game app and dating.

You swipe right to catch, and you swipe left to run away.

Sounds kind of like the Tinder dating app, but it's not. The creator of the app told Hopper it's as if Pokemon and Tinder had a baby.

"It's a merger of my two favorite apps, and I've already been able to find a few mates and I'm very excited about our endeavors," says Danielle Maynard.

While the new app is still only a few days old,  according to the creator, Poke-Match has exceeded 10,000 matches with 7,500 active users.

The app gives the chance for people playing Pokemon Go to find a potential love interest. The couple that plays together stays together?

Here's how it works. When you're out looking for a Pokemon Go, you can also catch a mate. You can also pick a Pokemon stop to meet up. You can find dates and/or just friends to play with and against.

But not everyone is on board with it.

Christian Garcia believes Poke-Match will mess with his game. And he's not talking about his dating game.

"I feel like I would be more focused on checking the app trying to catch a Pokemon rather than actually checking it to find a date nearby or something," Garcia says.

Right now, the app is only available on an Android devices. By Monday, iPhones will have it.
