Puppy Found High On Heroin, Meth Adopted Into New Loving Home

ORANGE (CBSLA.com) — It would be an understatement to say that a puppy named Bubba had a rough start.

When found in a Tustin motel in March, Bubba was strung out on heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana. His former owner was arrested on suspicion of drug possession and animal cruelty.

Today, the green-eyed Jack Russell terrier/Chihuahua mix is drug-free and ready, after a complete detox, to go to a forever home.

CBS2 first shared photos of 7-month-old Bubba after he was removed from his owner. Bubba's former owner arrested on animal cruelty charges and drug possession.

O.C. Animal Care officers said they got calls inquiring about Bubba from all over the world.

"We've had him here for four months," said Katie Ingram of OC Animal Care, "we've been testing him. And he did test positive for meth amphetamine at one point, but last week we found out it cleared out of his system and he's very healthy. And he's ready for adoption."

Late today,  CBS2's Michele Gile says a couple came to the shelter to adopt Bubba.

Turns out the couple are CBS2/KCAL  viewers who heard about the puppy's plight and when they heard he was available to adopt, they jumped at the chance.

Gile reports the couple on Wednesday would be bringing Bubba home to meet his new sister, a German Shepard, named Stella.
