Crews Gaining On Fire Near Stevenson Ranch

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A fire that's burned a 1,100 acres near the 5 Freeway in the Stevenson Ranch area was 49 percent contained Sunday evening.

Crews will be working through the night, as they hunt down hot spots.

The Sage Fire broke out around 12 p.m. Saturday, officials said.

Several backyards were damaged, but no structures were harmed.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a smoke advisory for parts of the Santa Clarita Valley and San Gabriel Mountains.

Red flag advisories are in effect through Monday morning.

About 2,000 people who were evacuated Saturday returned to their homes early Sunday.

Some went to work cleaning ash and fire reddish-pink fire retardant off driveways, cars and rooftops.

Neighbors said they'd taken steps to reduce the risk of fire damage, following  the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Ready Set Go program.
