Mission Hills Man, 20, Sentenced To 14 Years In Prison For Killing 3 In DUI Crash Involving Pot, Tranquilizers

MISSION HILLS (CBSLA.com)  —   Authorities said a 20-year-old Mission Hills man was sentenced to 14 years and eight months in state prison Friday for a DUI crash that left three people dead.

The Los Angeles County DA's office said Riley John Holman was under the influence of marijuana and the tranquilizer benzodiazepine when he caused the deadly accident.

Deputy DA Kaveh Faturechi said Holman pleaded no contest on June 9 to three counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of driving under the influence of a drug causing injury.

Victim Santos Benjamin Ordonez-Baquiax, 22, was driving a Toyota Corolla near Roscoe Boulevard and Haskell Avenue in North Hills when Holman's Jeep crashed into him. The victim's car then spun out and crashed against a third vehicle, the DA said.

The victim's brother Edgar Ordonez-Baquiax, 20, and Francis Olivas Oxlaj-Alvarez, 25, passengers in the Corolla, were also killed. A fourth passenger was severely injured, the prosecutor added.
