Patients Raving About Minimally Invasive Way To Rejuvenate Skin

BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Some local patients are raving about a minimally invasive way to rejuvenate your skin.

"Besides living in Los Angeles, where you have a lot of beautiful people, I want to age gracefully," said Jonna, a mother of two.

Like many women, she is artfully balancing her home life, work, and appearance.

That's why Jonna is trying radio-frequency with micro-needling for the first time with dermatologist Lisa Chipps in Beverly Hills.

"We use these technologies to thicken-up the skin. That allows us to get this energy even deeper into the skin, not just on the surface, but really allows us to deliver it where it is needed in the dermis," said Chipps.

The process begins with an anesthetic cream applied to the patient's face.

"Deliver the energy to her face. I'll use a foot-pedal to activate and that's going to deliver these little micro-needles, a grid-like array of them, into the dermis, which then will deliver energy," the doctor said.

The patient then feels warmth, and maybe a slight amount of pressure as the needles, move across her face.

"Immediately after she does a pulse, you can feel the needles go in, but when it's done, there's no pain at all," Jonna said.

The combined radio-frequency and micro-needle treatment is not just to combat aging but is also popular among younger patients in their 20s.

"The micro-needling is especially good at targeting damaged collagen, so acne scars, stretch marks," said Chipps.

The treatment is typically administered once a month over the course of a few months.

As for Jonna, she said she has already seen positive results.

"I can see the lines. Since I can see it, I feel that it is something that affects me in my daily life, and it's worth it for me," said Jonna.

Patients typically have four to six treatments with the cost ranging from $250 to $550 per session.

There are different micro needling options. Dr. Chipps uses EndyMed.
