Shark Sighting Leads To Brief Beach Closure In Dana Point
DANA POINT (CBSLA.com) — A portion of the water at a beach in Dana Point has been reopened after a shark sighting that spurred a brief closure.
Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, lifeguards in Orange County received a report of the sighting, which was later confirmed by a lifeguard.
The shark was seen breaching 300-yards off of Dana Point and Salt Creek State Beach and prompted lifeguards to clear the beach.
A search was conducted for about an hour via helicopter and a watercraft, but no other observations were made.
The beach was subsequently reopened, but lifeguards have posted signs for 2 miles north and south of the sighting, advising the public to enter the water at their own risk.
Authorities say they'll re-evaluate the situation in 18 to 24 hours.
