Man Who Jumped Off Venice Pier Found Safe At Home

VENICE (CBSLA.com) — After a search that lasted seven hours, authorities found a man who was seen jumping off the Venice Pier.

A lifeguard and another witness saw the man leave personal items, including a cell phone, on the pier before diving about 2:30 a.m.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Los Angeles County Fire Department searched using three boats, two helicopters and dive crews.

Investigators identified the man as David Matthew Rose.

Sheriff's deputies went to his home about 9:50 a.m. and found him safe, according to a watch commander with the Marina del Rey Sheriff's Station.

Pier jumping is illegal.

It's not clear whether Rose will face any charges.
