Woman Suspected Of Orchestrating Fatal Glendale Shooting Over Insult

GLENDALE (AP) — A young woman from Northern California has been arrested on suspicion of orchestrating the slaying of a man who allegedly insulted her, police said.

Dezerea Lyons, 18, of Napa planned the attack by calling and sending texts to two men, who were also arrested on suspicion of gunning down the man in Glendale early Saturday, police Sgt. Robert William said.

According to reports, Lyons had met the victim, identified as Phillip Niles Jr., hours earlier and they wound up at a party at a Glendale apartment, where she felt insulted by comments he had made. It's not clear exactly what he said.

After calling and texting the suspected gunmen — Laquan Parker, 24, of Suisun City and Brandon Perkins, 26, of Stockton — to come to the apartment, Lyons left the party with a friend. Niles walked them out and was shot to death, police said.

Investigators tracked the suspects to a motel in Monrovia and arrested them for investigation of murder, William said. Each was being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
