Laguna Canyon Road Open As Firefighters Gain Ground On Brush Fire

LAGUNA BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Laguna Canyon Road was open Monday, as firefighters stopped the forward spread of a brush fire in the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park and were working on clearing a line of vegetation around it.

Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 12:57 p.m. Sunday inside the park, on the west side of Laguna Canyon Road, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Tony Bommarito.

About 50 acres had been scorched as of 6:40 p.m. and 120 firefighters from around Orange County were working the scene, he said.

The fire was 60 percent contained, Bommarito said. The blaze wasn't threatening structures and no injuries were reported.

The CHP reported Route 133, which was closed between Laguna Beach and the San Diego (405) Freeway, was reopened Sunday night. In the middle of that closure area, the offramps from Route 73 Toll Road to Laguna Canyon and El Toro Road were also reopened.
