Investigation Underway Into Alleged Threat By US Marines Against Gay Bars

CAMP PENDLETON (CBSLA.com) — Two California-based U.S. Marines are reportedly under investigation for an apparent social media threat to attack gay bars in the aftermath of the mass shooting in Orlando.

The photo initially surfaced on the Facebook page for "Camp MENdleton resale" and showed a Marine pointing a rifle at the camera with his finger on the trigger and a caption which read, "Coming to a gay bar near you!".

While the image has since been taken down, the image has been reposted across various social media platforms.

A spokesperson told the Marine Corps Times the Marine seen in the picture has been identified and an investigation is currently ongoing. The Marines allegedly linked to the image are currently serving in the I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) based out of Camp Pendleton, according to The Times.

The news outlet cited a statement saying officials would consider "appropriate action" in response to the social media post, but would not discuss details about the investigation.

The investigation comes less than a week after a terror attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando left at least 49 dead and 43 more wounded.
