Hollywood Couple Reeling After Dog Manages To Escape From Pet Hotel

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A Hollywood-area couple is reeling after they say their dog escaped from a pet hotel over the weekend.

"He is a wonderful, sweet, rescue," said Talita Trygsland. "We love him like our child. He's our baby,"

She and Louis Angelo checked their 7-year-old lab-pit mix named Cash into Pooch Pet Hotel in Hollywood.

When Angelo went to pick him up Sunday morning, he says "they were like, 'Oh, he's not here.' "

Security video that Angelo shot at Pooch shows Cash in a staff area at 8 p.m. Saturday, pawing at a door.

"You can see him kinda opening a door a couple of times. The first attempt he didn't do it. The second attempt, he was able to do it," he said.

Then, another clip shows him in a reception area, pushing through another door, out onto Highland Avenue.

"No one was at the front desk," he said. "There was no one else around."

They thought he'd turn up right away in the heart of Hollywood but it's been six days. With the help of volunteers, they've plastered Highland Avenue to Runyon Canyon with pictures of the 65-pound Cash. They are offering a $1,000 reward.

Although they don't understand how this could have happened, Angelo says "at this point, I just want him back. We just want him to be home. And it's one of those things that, you know, we could deal with that later."

They are asking members of the public to turn Cash in, no questions asked.

"Just turn him in," Angelo said. "Any shelter will take him."

Late Thursday, a representative for the hotel issued the following statement:

"… Cash, one of our team's favorites, in a series of highly unlikely circumstances, was able to open four doors and let himself out of the hotel. Our focus right now is finding Cash and bringing him home … "

The dog's owners will also be enlisting the help of a pet detective and bloodhounds to bring Cash home.
