Restaurant Employee Accused Of Restroom Assault On Young Girl

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A Riverside restaurant worker is suspected of sexually assaulting a young girl in a restroom at his workplace, police said Thursday.

Avimael Lopez, 34, was arrested after officers responded around noon Monday to a reported sexual assault at a restaurant in the 1700 block of University Avenue, according to Riverside police.

Officers say the victim used the restroom while dining at the establishment and was found by her mother a short time later with Lopez inside the same restroom.

Detectives from the Riverside PD Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit responded to assist in the investigation and later determined Lopez sexually assaulted the victim while inside the bathroom, police said.

Lopez was arrested and later booked into the Riverside County Jail for lewd acts upon a child under 10 years old.
