Buena Park Police Seek Mail Thieves Targeting Seniors

BUENA PARK (CBSLA.com) — Buena Park police need your help locating a man and a woman accused of breaking into mail boxes at a senior apartment building.

Several mailboxes were burglarized and numerous pieces of mail and packages were stolen at about 2 a.m. on May 19 at Dorado Senior Apartments at 8622 Stanton Avenue, according to a Buena Park police press release.

Security video shows the suspects standing in front of the mailboxes, stepping out of the building and their SUV leaving the parking lot.

Police said the suspected thieves entered the building through an unsecured door, pried open the mailboxes and stole the mail and packages.

The Dorado Senior Apartment complex is supposed to be a secured facility with an auto-locking mechanism activated at 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.

Investigators said they found no signs of forced entry and that alleged thieves may have followed someone in or entered at an earlier time and rigged the door not to lock for later entry.

The man is described as 5 foot 11 inches tall, 190 to 200 pounds with a shaved head. He was wearing an oversized baggie shirt, dark jeans and dark shoes.

Police said the woman is about 5 foot 6 to 5 foot 8 inches tall, 20 to 27 years old and 150-180 pounds. She was wearing a black jacket, pink undershirt, dark pants, black/white shoes and carrying a purse. She is possibly pregnant.

They were driving a silver Toyota 4-Runner with right/rear tail light that was not working.
