Armed Man In Custody Following Standoff In Buena Park

BUENA PARK (CBSLA.com) — A 29-year-old armed suspect was in custody Monday after fleeing from the scene of a suspected drug lab explosion.

According to the Buena Park Police Department, Edgar Salazar surrendered shortly after midnight. He was taken into custody without incident and no shots were fired.

Police said Salazar did not reside at the home that caught on fire.

Officers were sent around 5:30 p.m. Sunday to the 7700 block of 11th Street Sunday to assist the Orange County Fire Authority with reports of an explosion and burn victims.

Upon their arrival, authorities located Salazar standing on the roof pointing a scoped rifle at authorities, witnesses and a police helicopter that arrived to the scene.

SWAT teams were sent to help resolve the situation peacefully.

Several residents were evacuated during the standoff.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
