After The Fire, Relief And Gratitude In Calabasas

CALABASAS (CBSLA.com) — A day after the Old Fire burned more than 500 acres, homeowners are breathing easier and thanking firefighters.

"Incredible, those guys they saved the house, they saved the neighborhood," said Rich Rosenberg of Calabasas.

Rosenberg's home was right in the path of the fire, and the edge of his back yard burned before firefighters doused the flames.

Some neighbors evacuated voluntarily, others were under orders, and others remained in their homes.

Galait Ambar sent her kids to Sherman Oaks and stayed behind with her husband.

She packed up her car just in case.

"I started crying, saying I don't want to leave my house," said Ambar.

Late Sunday, the sound of chainsaws and other equipment could be heard as firefighters put out hotspots in the blackened hills.

"We hike around these mountains all the time," said Tina Borenstein.  "So not very scenic at this point."
