ET: Richard Simmons Allegedly Hospitalized For Exhibiting Bizarre Behavior

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  ET Online is reporting that fitness guru and TV personality Richard Simmons was hospitalized Friday evening after he began exhibiting bizarre behavior.

The LA Fire Department confirmed to ET that someone was transported by ambulance to the hospital from Simmons' address.

Authorities responded to the Simmons home just before midnight.

The Fire Department would not confirm if the 67-year-old Simmons was the one transported but TMZ quoted various sources who said Simmons was acting in an unusually strange manner.

In March, rumors circulated that Simmons was being held against his own will in his residence.

At that time, he told an "ET" producer, "I am not kidnapped. I am just in my house right now."

He added, "No one should be worried about me. The people that surround me are wonderful people who take great care of me."

It was unclear if Simmons was still hospitalized or where the ambulance took him. Several reports said he was taken to Cedars-Sinai.

As best as anyone can determine, Simmons' last public appearance was in January 2014.

On Sunday, through his publicist, Simmons issued the following statement:

"Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and concern after hearing I was in the hospital. I was dehydrated and needed some fluids and now I am feeling great! Summer is here - drink plenty of liquids. Big hugs and kisses for caring."
