Driver Arrested In Backyard Jacuzzi In Anaheim After Police Pursuit

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — An Anaheim man led police on a pursuit before ending up literally in hot water Tuesday.

At around 5:00 a.m., an officer tried to pull over a black Ford Mustang for traffic violations near Kraemer Boulevard and Chapman Avenue in Placentia, according to Lt. Eric Point of the Placentia Police Department.

The driver, identified as Erick Flowers, refused to stop and took off after the passenger jumped out of the vehicle. An officer detained the passenger while the other officers chased after the driver.

The 29-year-old drove onto the westbound 91 freeway and crashed near the State College Boulevard ramp. He ran across the freeway and into an Anaheim residential neighborhood.

Half an hour later, officers found him hiding in a backyard on Rosewood Avenue in Anaheim. He was submerged in a covered hot tub.

Don Norell, who lives in the house, recorded the moment when officers discovered Flowers. Norell said the suspect looked dead inside the hot tub.

But it turned out, Flowers was just passed out in what Norell said was 104-degree water. Police ordered him out of the tub with his hands up.

Flowers faced multiple charges including being under the influence of methamphetamine.

Officers found a loaded sawed off shotgun, stolen property and drug paraphernalia in the car, according to a police press release.

The passenger was identified as Andres Rivero, 36, of Fullerton. He was also booked on charges of possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a dangerous weapon.
