Dodgers To Call Up Top Prospect Julio Urias For Game Against Mets

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Julio Urias is expected to make his MLB debut this week against the New York Mets.

On Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced plans to call up 19-year-old Urias to their roster.

The Dodgers' top prospect will replace Alex Wood in the rotation, who's skipping a start due to having left triceps soreness, Jon Weisman of Dodgers Insider reported.

According to Weisman, Urias will become the youngest "Major League pitcher since Felix Hernandez's 2005 season with Seattle," the youngest "Dodger pitcher since Fernando Valenzuela made his debut as a reliever in 1980," and the youngest "Dodger starting pitcher since Dick Calmus in August 1963."

In fact, Urias has been coined the best pitching prospect Los Angeles has had since Clayton Kershaw.

This season alone, with Triple-A Oklahoma City, he has recorded a 4-1 record, a 1.10 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 41 innings.  On top of that, Urias hasn't given up a run in 27 straight innings.

The Dodgers will announce a 40-man roster move Friday in order to make room for Urias' contract.

At this time, it remains unclear if he will remain in the rotation following his start against the Mets.
