Deadly Shooting Investigation Underway In Wilmington

WILMINGTON (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Monday searched for the person responsible for fatally shooting a 34-year-old man in Wilmington.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers were sent around 11:30 p.m. Sunday to the 400 block of Gulf Avenue.

Upon their arrival, authorities located an adult man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. He was later identified as Julio Cesar Pena.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Pena was riding his motorcycle home when he was approached by an unknown suspect at a four-way stop.

The suspect stepped off the curb and shot Pena several times, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle just west of D Street, police explained.

At this time, suspect description has been provided.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
