Man Accused Of Lighting 2 On Fire At Homeless Encampment

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities have arrested a 54-year-old man they suspect approached a homeless encampment in South Los Angeles and lit two people on fire.

Police said Phillip Darryl Cole was arrested around 4 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder. His bail has been set at $1.27 million.

According to police, the incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. May 19 in an empty lot at 83rd Street and Vermont Avenue.

It was there police allege the suspect approached a homeless encampment, threw a flammable liquid on two victims, and lit them on fire.

Both suffered serious injuries but are presently listed in stable condition.
