LAX Security Beefed Up In Wake Of EgyptAir Crash

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Security has been tightened at Los Angeles International Airport and other airfields in the wake of the EgyptAir plane crash.

Egyptian and Russian officials said Flight 804 from Paris to Cairo with 66 people may have been brought down by terrorists.

"The safety and security of passengers, airport workers, and visitors is our number one priority," Airport Police Sgt. Belinda Joseph said. "We have heightened our security posture and enhanced our counter-terrorism security measures at our Los Angeles World Airport airports. We are constantly assessing intelligence and events, both domestically and abroad. We constantly review the security measures we have in place, and will enhance and improve security as needed."

According to a statement released by airport police, there are more than 48,000 credentialed airport employees, who went through background checks.

Officers monitor employee access points daily and conduct inspections as well as random screening of aviation workers throughout the sterile and secured areas, the statement said.
