Disappearance Of Young Mother 11 Days Ago Deemed 'Suspicious', Police Say

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — The search continues Tuesday night for a young mother who was last seen in a quiet Santa Ana apartment complex she shared with her husband and son.

Claudia Reyes, 21, was last seen 11 days ago and hasn't called family, friends, or returned to work since.

"She just basically disappeared," Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department. "Mothers don't do that."

Police said Reyes, who has a 4-year-old son, was last seen with her husband May 6 in front of their apartment.

In a missing person's report filed four days after she disappeared, Reyes' husband told police the last time he spoke with her was when she had gone clubbing with friends.

Neighbors said they often saw Reyes with her son or heading to work at El Pollo Loco but never saw her dressed up to go out.

"The few times I saw her, she was going to work and she had her little boy with her," said one neighbor.

Police have called her disappearance "suspicious." They have also secured the couple's now vacant apartment.

"Pretty funny how he moved out in the middle of the night on Sunday and then tried to come back today to clean up whatever he left behind," said another neighbor of Reyes' husband.

Police say they responded to domestic disputes at the couple's apartment nine times but they say there was no evidence of violence.

Meanwhile, detectives have questions for her husband, who has retained an attorney who is fully cooperating with the investigation.
