Man Climbs Down From TV Tower In Hollywood After Good Samaritan Offers Him Hug, Police Say

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Authorities shut a portion of a busy street in Hollywood for hours after a man climbed KTLA's TV tower.

Sunset Boulevard was closed between Gower Street and Wilton Place Wednesday afternoon, causing a traffic nightmare.

There was no word yet on what prompted the man to climb the tower, but police said a good Samaritan convinced him to climb down after offering him a hug.

The woman told CBS Los Angeles she knew the man from a local church where she recently handed out food to him.

By 8 p.m., he had descended from the tower. Streets were reopened soon after.

Police said the man was expected to undergo a mental health evaluation.

No further details were immediately released.
