Magic Words For Fixing Lakers: Durant, LeBron, And DeRozan

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Are you listening, Mitch Kupchak?

Lakers legend Magic Johnson has a very simple recommendation to help the team's GM immediately turn the downtrodden franchise back into a playoff contender: just get one of the top players in the NBA to come to Los Angeles.

With about $60 million in cap space, the Lakers are hoping the addition of coach Luke Walton will help the team's young core of D'Angelo Russell, Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson take their game to the next level and make L.A. more attractive to some of this off-season's biggest free agents.

And for Magic, there's no question who should be their primary target.

"The first free agent the Lakers should go after is Kevin Durant", Johnson wrote on Twitter.

Minutes later, he suggested the team at least reach out to LeBron James, who's expected to re-sign with Cleveland after this season.

Shortly after the Toronto Raptors eliminated the Indiana Pacers, Johnson also called for DeMar DeRozan to be added to the Lakers' list.

The team is reportedly prepared to offer DeRozan - who played at Compton High - a max contract starting at $25 million per season.
