Lakers To Auction Off Piece Of Court From Kobe's Last Game
EL SEGUNDO (CBSLA.com) — Laker fans have a chance to own a portion of the hardwood court on which Kobe Bryant played his final NBA game, the team announced Wednesday.
A commemorative court was used in Bryant's April 13 farewell game at Staples Center, featuring the two numbers he wore during his illustrious career, 8 and 24.
The team is auctioning off the four panels of hardwood that combined to create the number 8, which Bryant autographed after the game. The three panels will be sold as a single item in an online auction, with bids starting at $10,000.
Bids will be accepted until May 13, with the auction conducted by MeiGray, the NBA's game-used memorabilia authenticator.
The panels making up the number 24 will be placed on display at the Lakers' practice facility.
For Laker fans without the financial wherewithal to bid on such a high-dollar item, the team is also raffling off 24 replica tickets from the game, autographed by Bryant. Raffle tickets start at $10 and are available at www.NetRaffle.org.
The raffle will run through May 13.
Proceeds from the auction and raffle will benefit the Lakers Youth Foundation.
