Anaheim City Council To Vote On Resolution That Would Condemn Trump's 'Negative Rhetoric'
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — The Anaheim City Council Tuesday plans to vote on a resolution condemning what some members call Donald Trump's "negative rhetoric."
"The dialogue is so negative that we don't want our kids exposed to those terms. Hateful speech should never be excused as a straight talk," said Councilwoman Kris Murray.
But, We the People Rising, a pro-Trump grassroots group, says it plans to protest the resolution during the meeting.
They say Trump is no more negative than some of the other candidates and shouldn't be singled out.
"My goodness, he is not the only one that's been saying negative things," said Betty Robinson. She is one of dozens of pro-Trump supporters who plan on attending the City Council meeting to fight the resolution.
"I don't think somebody should use a public platform to denigrate not only the candidate but their supporters," Robinson said.
But Murray says Trump's words have no place in her diverse city.
"This type of rhetoric is not welcome in a city that prides kindness and inclusiveness as one of its guiding principles," she said.
Other cities have taken similar actions against Trump.
West Hollywood, for instance, says he's not welcome there and the cities of Philadelphia and St. Petersburg, Florida have voted to denounce him.
