Gunman Arrested Following Officer-Involved Shooting In Westlake District

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police Thursday arrested a gunman in the Westlake District.

The exchange of gunfire took place shortly after 11:00 p.m. Wednesday in the area near Occidental Boulevard and Hyans Street when officers attempted to stop the gunman who traveled on a bicycle, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

No officers were injured. The male suspect, who is believed to be in his early 20s, was not struck by gunfire and managed to evade arrest.

A short while later, authorities set up a perimeter in the area of Temple Street and Benton Way.

The gunman was subsequently taken into custody with the assistance of a SWAT team.

It was unclear what the suspect was originally wanted for.
