$20K Reward Offered In Hopes Of Catching A Killer Of Teen In Carson

CARSON (CBSLA.com)   — A $20,000 reward is being offered in Carson in hopes it leads to the capture of a killer.

The shooting death happened at Dolores and 228th Street.

KCAL9's Rachel Kim spoke to the victim's family hoping the reward will get them justice.

"I'm still kind of speechless, I feel like I'm in a dream, I can't believe this is happening," says Emily Uy.

Tonight, Uy came back to the spot where her little brother -- Justin -- was shot several times.

She said the reality of the 18-year-old's death is starting to sink in.

He was standing on the corner just past midnight on April 13 when he was hit by bullets. He was on life support for days but was pronounced dead Wednesday night.

"He was a good kid. He never hurt a single soul, he was always good in school, he'd never hurt anybody," said Emily.

Investigators don't know who shot Justin or why but they say Justin was an innocent victim.

The victim was a rear defensive player on Carson High's varsity volleyball team. In March, he was named one of the top players in the city. Thursday night, Justin's coaches and teammates joined his family for prayers and comfort.

"In the past three months, there's been four shootings and three deaths. Our kids can't walk outside anymore so it's really sad what our community is coming to," said Coach Gerald Aquiningoc.

The City of Carson is offering the $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooter or shooters.

"I know you're up there and I know you're watching over us now. Just please watch over us and protect us. We love you so much, and we're sorry," said Emily.
