California Unemployment Rate Decreases To 5.4 Percent

LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — California's unemployment rate dipped to 5.4 percent in March.

The state Employment Development Department released the monthly jobs figures on Friday. The rate was down from 5.5 percent in February and from 6.6 percent in March 2015.

The state says nonfarm payroll jobs increased by 4,200 last month to a total of more than 16.3 million.

In Los Angeles County, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate similarly dipped to 5.4 percent from 5.6 percent in February, and well below the 7.4 percent rate from this same time last year.

In Orange County, the unemployment rate remained steady at 4 percent.
