A List Of Lawmakers Who Collect Both Pension Check, Salary

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A newspaper search of pension system records has found that 17 California lawmakers collect government pension checks on top of their legislative salaries.

Here's a look at who they are and the annual pension they receive:

— Assemblyman Jim Cooper, D-Elk Grove, $173,820. Cooper retired two years ago at age 50 as a captain with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

— Sen. Jean Fuller, R-Bakersfield, $112,980. Fuller spent 30 years in public education and was superintendent of the Keppel Union School District

— Assemblyman Tom W. Lackey, R-Palmdale, $111,792. He retired at age 54 as a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol.

— Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, D-San Diego, $103,000. Weber taught at California State L.A. and Los Angeles City College. She was also a professor at San Diego State.

— Sen. John Moorlach, R-Costa Mesa, $83,827. He retired at age 59 after serving about 19 years of service that included time on the Orange County Board of Supervisors and as the county treasurer.

— Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer, D-South Los Angeles, $83,544. He worked for the city of Los Angeles in roles including director of asset management and assistant deputy mayor.

— Assemblyman Jose Medina, D-Riverside, $63,420. Medina retired in 2012 after many years as a teacher with the Riverside Unified School District.

— Sen. Marty Block, D-San Diego, $59,481. Block served as dean, professor and legal advisor at San Diego State.

— Assemblyman Richard Gordon, D-Menlo Park, $51,293. Gordon spent 13 years on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, which was a full-time job with benefits.

— Sen. Richard Roth, D-Riverside, $45,566. He is a former major general in the U.S. Air Force.

— Sen. James Beall, D-San Jose, $40,320. Beall is a former member of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and former urban planner for the cities of Santa Cruz and Los Gatos.

— Sen. Fran Pavley, D-Agoura Hills, $19,140. She taught in public schools for more than two decades, completing her teaching career in Moorpark before she retired in July 2004.

— Assemblyman Kansen Chu, D-San Jose, $18,276. He worked as an aide to legislators and served seven years on the San Jose City Council.

— Sen. Lois Wolk, D-Davis, $11,827. Wolk served from 1998 to 2002 as an elected member of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors.

— Sen. Carol Liu, D-La Canada Flintridge, $8,880. Liu was an administrator and teacher in Richmond public schools.

— Assemblyman Richard Bloom, D-Santa Monica, $5,239. He served for 13 years on the Santa Monica City Council.

— Assemblyman Rocky Chavez, R-Oceanside. Requests for information about his annual pension were not answered by Chavez and military representatives. He spent more than 28 years as a U.S. Marine.
