Elderly Mother, Adult Son Killed In Hyde Park House Fire

HYDE PARK (CBSLA.com) — An elderly woman and her adult son were killed Thursday in a fire that erupted inside of a home in Hyde Park.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, crews were sent around 1:40 a.m. to a home located in the 4200 block of West 62nd Street for report of a greater alarm fire.

Upon their arrival, firefighters located heavy flames showing from the two-story residence.

It took just under one hour for 78 firefighters to extinguish the blaze. The second floor of the home was subsequently compromised by damage.

Authorities later discovered the bodies of an 74-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man inside of the residence.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors identified the victims as Mary and Lamont Reed. Officials have not confirmed their identities.

Firefighters said it appears the adult son may have went back into the home to try and rescue his elderly mother.

A 77-year-old man, who was the father and husband of the victims, escaped from the blaze with injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
