Driver Wanted For Attempting To Kidnap Woman In Westlake District

WESTLAKE (CBSLA.com) — Officers continued to search Monday for a man who allegedly kidnapped a woman in the Westlake District.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the abduction unfolded around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Ingraham Street near Witmer.

Officers responded to the area for report of a call for help for a woman who was heard screaming by neighbors in the early morning hours.

Upon their arrival, authorities spotted a woman sitting in the back seat of a SUV.

Officers attempted to get into the car and at one point broke some of the windows of the vehicle.

Authorities told the man to open the door but he refused. At that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect managed to drive away with the victim inside of the vehicle.

Police said the victim was able to escape from the SUV a few blocks away. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the kidnapping and remains listed in stable condition.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim was waiting to get picked up by an Uber driver when the abduction took place. It remains unclear if the SUV had an Uber decal on the windshield.

Authorities were still searching for the suspect, who is described as a man in his 20s or 30s.

CBS2's Jasmine Viel reached out to Uber for comment, but they have chosen to decline until further notice as the investigation is ongoing.
