Kidnapping Suspect Shot, Killed After Hours-Long Standoff In East LA

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sheriff's officials say deputies shot and killed a man wanted in a kidnapping case after he threatened them with a handgun during a standoff at an East Los Angeles residence.

Deputy Lisa Jansen says the suspect barricaded himself inside the residence when deputies arrived to arrest him late Wednesday.

The man was wanted on suspicion of kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon for an incident March 19.

Jansen says after a standoff lasting several hours the suspect emerged from the residence early Thursday waving a handgun and threatening deputies.

She says deputies opened fire and the man was struck several times. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. His name was not released pending notification of family.

It wasn't immediately known if a gun was recovered.
