More Than 2 Dozen Car Burglaries Reported Within 5-Block Radius Of Westwood Building Since January, Police Say

WEST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities hope the public will take a close look at two people who they say may be responsible for a string of car burglaries in West Los Angeles.

"It was horrible. The worst part is they weren't even scared. That's what bothered me," said a burglary victim identified only as Tiffani.

Security video caught the pair allegedly rummaging through her car last week.

Tiffani says she had just gotten home and was trying to lock her car remotely from an app but wasn't able to.

"I said, 'OK, maybe it's a WiFi glitch.' I tried locking it again. And it said, 'Error.' I couldn't lock it because they were in my car," she said.

Tiffani said the suspects got away with property valued at thousands of dollars, including iPads, a car seat, and a stroller.

But that's not all.

Police say it appears they somehow had a master postal key that unlocked the building's front door and mailboxes.

Footage captured images of a man accused filling a bag with mail.

Minutes later, cameras caught the pair walking out of the front door with their arms allegedly filled with items.

Within a five-block radius of a building in Westwood, detectives say there have been more than two dozen car burglaries since January. They are looking into the possibility of whether the pair was suspected in the other incidents.

Police say most of them break-ins were happening in secure garages to unlocked cars and cars with expensive items in plain view. They recommend always being sure to lock-up. But for Tiffani, she says everything taken can be replaced except for her sense of security.

"Now I come in and I'm triple-checking and looking. This is my own home; it stinks," she said.
