Man Running From Fullerton Police Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver

FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — A man in his 20s who ran from police was struck and critically injured by a car that fled the scene, authorities said.

Police initially made contact with a young man riding a bike in a park near Orangethorpe Avenue at about 10 p.m., Fullerton police Sgt. Jeff Stewart said.

The officer apparently stopped the bicyclist for "an equipment violation," according to Fullerton police Sgt. Kathryn Hamel. As the officer spoke with him, he fled on foot, abandoning his bicycle at the scene.

The victim, who sustained significant injuries, remains in critical condition Monday morning.

"That motorist did not stop and we are looking for him this morning for the hit-and-run," Stewart said.

The only description police have of the hit-and-run vehicle is that it was a dark-colored sedan. There was no description of the driver.

Anyone with information on this hit-and-run can call the Fullerton police at (714) 738-6800.
