Babysitter Arrested After 5-Month-Old Boy Succumbs To Injuries Allegedly Suffered In Assault

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — Sheriff's homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 5-month0ld male infant in Lancaster, who died Saturday at a hospital from injuries inflicted during an alleged assault.

Authorities were notified of the incident in the 43000 block of Gadsden Avenue at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, according to Deputy Grace Medrano of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The initial call was responding to a report of a child not breathing, officials said.

The child was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead Saturday, Medrano said.

LA County Sheriff's said the child had "serious head trauma" and bruising to the upper torso.

Detectives interviewed the babysitter -- reportedly a long-time friend of the child's father -- and arrested her the same day.

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Brittany Ingrassi of Lancaster. She was arrested for cruelty to a child likely to produce great bodily injury or death.

The investigation is on-going. Authorities said there will be additional charges filed against Ingrassi.

On Wednesday, detectives asked the public to come forward if they possibly witnessed the babysitter strike the child.

Sheriff's homicide detectives asked anyone with information regarding the death to call them at (323) 890-5500.
