Judge Orders JetBlue Flight Attendant Allegedly Caught With Luggage Full Of Cocaine To Return To Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — A JetBlue flight attendant accused of trying to sneak a suitcase full of cocaine through Los Angeles International Airport and making a dramatic dash to escape is being ordered to be returned to California.

Judge Andrew Birotte Jr. in Los Angeles issued the order Thursday after prosecutors appealed a New York City jurist's decision to free Marsha Gay Reynolds on $500,000 bail.

Reynolds is a former Jamaican beauty queen and New York University track athlete. She surrendered in New York on Wednesday after authorities say they found 70 pounds of cocaine in her luggage at LAX after she fled inspection.

The 31-year-old, according to an affidavit in support of the criminal complaint, was selected Friday at random to participate in a secondary TSA security screening. Crew members are not typically searched.

The complaint alleges that after being escorted to the secondary screening area, Reynolds dropped her carry-on luggage, kicked off her Gucci heels, and began to run down an upward traveling escalator.

Authorities then obtained custody of the two carry-on luggage bags, which were abandoned.

Birotte decided she'll remain in custody while being transported to an April 7 hearing in Los Angeles.

A spokesman for Reynolds' legal team called that order "grossly unfair."
