Part Of Human Skull Found In Griffith Park

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  Authorities said two hikers found part of a human skull Saturday in Griffith Park.

The skull is believed to have been at the location for some time.

Officials said the coroner's office was summoned a little after 3 p.m. after the grisly find was made on the Brush Canyon Trail near Bronson Canyon, authorities said.

KCAL9's Jennifer Kastner says the two hikers saw the skull while wandering about 400 yards off the Brush Canyon trail around 12:30 Saturday afternoon.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene immediately and they determined it was, in fact, human.

Kastner said the hikers found the top of the skull to the nose.

It;s not the first time skeletal remains have been found in this area of the park.

Kastner reported that a human skull was also found here in 2012. That finding later led to a homicide arrest.
