Compton Woman, 33, Sentenced To 14 Years In Prison For Abandoning Baby By Riverbed

COMPTON (CBSLA.com) —  Authorities said Wednesday that a 33-year-old Compton woman who abandoned her newborn near a riverbed, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced that Porche Laronda Washington pleaded no contest to attempted murder in the incident. The defendant also admitted a special allegation that she committed great bodily injury on a child under 6-years-old.

She faced a maximum of life in prison.

Deputy DA Adrian Roxas, said on Nov. 27, 2015, a three-day old baby girl was found abandoned in a hole near a Compton riverbed.

Law enforcement immediately began an investigation and a week later identified a person of interest through the assistance of tips from the public, Roxas added.

On Dec. 3, 2015, Washington was arrested in connection with the crime and charged.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
