Man Charged In Fatal Stabbing At Santa Ana Concert

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A man was charged Tuesday with fatally stabbing a fellow concertgoer at a Santa Ana club where a punk band was performing.

Juan Angel Rivera, 21, faces a maximum of 26 years to life behind bars if convicted in the death of Nathan Alfaro, who was attacked about 10:30 p.m. Thursday at Underground DTSA at 220 Third St.

Prosecutors say they will ask for Rivera's bail to be set at $1 million when he is arraigned Tuesday afternoon.

Rivera is accused of getting into a confrontation with the 23-year-old victim during the live performance, then pulling out a knife and stabbing him multiple times in the upper body.

Alfaro died at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Rivera left the club with several other people and was arrested about 10:40 a.m. the nextUnderground  morning as he was leaving his home.

Five punk bands were lined up to perform Thursday night, and the stabbing occurred during the second band's set. The club was shut down after the stabbing.
