DA To Review Police Findings In Violent Anaheim KKK Rally

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — The Orange County District Attorney's Office Monday will review the findings of a police report on the violent anti-immigration rally that was held in Anaheim.

The case will be presented to District Attorney Tony Rackauckas to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.

According to the Anaheim Police Department, the wild melee erupted between Ku Klux Klan members and counter-protesters on Saturday during a demonstration at Pearson Park.

During the rally, three protesters were stabbed. Others were beaten, stomped upon and attacked with wooden posts.

Authorities initially arrested five Klansmen and seven counter-protesters. Police later released the KKK members, citing video evidence that they say cleared them of being the aggressors.

On Sunday, police announced further investigation determined the counter-protesters came to the rally with the intent of violence and that KKK members acted in self-defense.

Seven people remained in custody as of Monday orning. Police are continuing to search for an additional counter-protester who is wanted in connection with the violent demonstration.

At 6 p.m., Rev. James Stern will join more than 300 community activists in Beverly Hills to call for the U.S. and California attorney general to prosecute the KKK under the Rico Act Organized Crime Bill for the attempted murders and assaults of the bystanders injured during the rally.

The investigation is ongoing.
