Rakell's OT Goal Lifts Ducks Over Oilers, 2-1

ANAHEIM (AP) — Rickard Rakell scored 1:24 into overtime to give the Anaheim Ducks a 2-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night.

Rakell put a backhander past Cam Talbot seconds after a change on the fly, using some gorgeous puck handling to keep Oilers center Leon Draisaitl flatfooted and leave the goaltender baffled.

Ryan Getzlaf scored in regulation and Frederik Andersen stopped 17 shots to give Anaheim its seventh straight win.

Jordan Eberle had the lone goal for Edmonton, which dropped its sixth in a row. Talbot made 32 saves and had an assist.

With the Ducks and Oilers going in opposite directions, no one at Honda Center would have been blamed for expecting an easy home win. Anaheim came in with 13 wins in its last 15 games, while Edmonton had all of 50 points for the season, punctuated by its longest losing streak of the campaign.

Instead, the outcome was always in doubt.

Getzlaf put Anaheim ahead 42 seconds into the third period, lifting a shot over Talbot's right shoulder for the Ducks' eighth power-play goal in their last seven games. The Anaheim captain has recorded a point in 10 straight games, the team's longest streak since Getzlaf had a goal or assist in 14 in a row in late 2013.

But Eberle tied it up 73 seconds later with a blistering wrist shot over Andersen's glove hand, his 20th goal of the season, matching Taylor Hall for the team lead.

Anaheim largely controlled the first period, taking 13 shots to Edmonton's 5, but a pair of unnecessary penalties broke up some of the Ducks' momentum. Jakob Silfverberg and Andrew Cogliano bombarded Talbot in the closing 10 seconds, forcing him to make two desperation stops to keep it scoreless.

Edmonton steadied itself in the second, holding Anaheim without a shot for more than 8 1/2 minutes to start the period. A nifty odd-man rush for Hall and Zack Kassian could have put the Oilers ahead, only for Kassian to kick the puck toward the goal instead of getting his stick on it.

NOTES: Edmonton scratched RW Teddy Purcell, D Justin Schultz and RW Iiro Pakarinen. Purcell and Schultz did not play for the second straight game. ... Anaheim scratched C Harry Zolnierczyk, D Clayton Stoner and Korbinian Holzer.
