Days After Kanye West Declares He's In Debt, Fan Creates Fundraising Page

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Days after Kanye West declared that he's in debt to the tune of $53 million, an online fundraising page has been started by a fan.

"We must open our hearts and wallets for Kanye today," wrote Jeremy Piatt in a GoFundMe page he started.

"Sure he is personally rich and can buy furs and houses for his family," Piatt wrote, "but without our help, the true genius of Kanye West can't be realized."

West last week shared on his official Twitter account that he owed $53 million dollars in "personal debt."

"Please pray we overcome … ," he wrote. "This is my true heart … "

A day later, the 38-year-old hip-hop recording artist also took to Twitter and asked Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg to invest $1 billion in his ideas.

"World, please tweet, FaceTime, Facebook, instagram, whatever you gotta do to get Mark to support me … " West wrote.

In an email to Mashable, Piatt said he was trying to help "the greatest living artist of our time while he's in need."

Thus far, the fundraising page, which has been shared 48,000 times, has raised $2,839 of its $53 million goal.
