Rick Fox Compares Early 2000 Lakers to the Current Golden State Warriors

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Rick Fox, who won three consecutive NBA titles in the 2000s, told The Jim Rome Show last season that he and the Warriors General Manager Bob Myers compared Fox's championship teams to the current Golden State Warriors.

During the past NBA All-Star weekend, The Jim Rome Show said that Fox and Myers picked up the same topic of conversation due to the Warriors taking a 48-4 record into the break.

Fox told Rome: "I watch Steph Curry and his teammates learn how to not just stretch the court and open up the lanes and penetrating and driving attacking the basket, he has stretched the floor to where you can no longer leave your defense at the three-point line and expect it to have a formidable approach defensively. You have to meet them full court. You have to meet at the half court line, and if you saw Steph Curry hit a three pointer at the All-Star game from half court, this is what Steph Curry's done, this is what this team has done."

When Fox was asked about his Lakers, he stood up for them to the best he could saying, "I'm going to fight for the Lakers. I'm going to fight for our team to at least have a fighting chance, but what they're doing this year is beyond impressive. I'm rooting for them. I hope they get there, but more importantly, I hope it doesn't fall short in their championship stretch, because I know that's probably most important to them."

The early 2000s Los Angeles Lakers could have posed a major threat with Shaquille O'Neal under the basket, but would he have been able to keep up with the uptempo of the Warriors?
