Police: Whittier College Student's Body Showed Signs Of Decomposition

WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — Investigators are working to determine the cause of death for a 20-year-old student found dead in her Whittier College dorm room, but police say they have ruled out foul play.

The woman's body was discovered at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday as officers responded to a report of an unresponsive student, Whittier police Officer John Scoggins said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her identity was withheld pending family notification.

"We are not searching for any suspects at this time and there is no known threat to the community," Scoggins said.

The body showed signs of decomposition but it was not known how long the woman had been dead, according to the coroner's office and Whittier police. The cause of death should come out of an autopsy, along with whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the woman's death, Scoggins said.

The student was not from California, but Scoggins said he didn't know what state she was from. He said he didn't know if she had roommates.

Anyone with information about the dead student can contact Whittier police at (562) 567-9270.
