Barry Manilow Doing Well After Surgery, Instructed Not To 'Talk, Sing, Or Rap' For 48 Hours

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Barry Manilow is doing well after getting out of surgery, his publicist said Friday.

The 72-year-old singer, famous for hits such as "Copacabana" and "Mandy," canceled performances in Kentucky and Nashville, and was rushed back to Los Angeles due to complications from emergency oral surgery that Manilow had on Monday," according to a statement posted on Facebook.

"Barry is out of surgery and doing well," Manilow's publicist, Victoria Varela, said in a statement. "His Doctors report that the surgery was successful and they expect no further complications. For the next forty eight hours, Manilow has been instructed not to talk, sing, or rap."

Varela said Manilow thanked his fans for their well wishes and concern.

It's not clear yet if Manilow will be able to attend Monday's Grammy Awards. His latest album, "My Dream Duets," has been nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, and is Manilow's 15th Grammy nomination.

Manilow's tour has been billed as his last. It is scheduled to wrap up June 23 in London.
